Professional Bio
Doug has dedicated 24 years to middle school education, currently serving as the principal at Mona Shores Middle School. He spent the first 11 years of his career teaching Math and English before transitioning into an administrative role for the past 13 years.
Doug's leadership philosophy is built on four core principles: a commitment to understanding strong leadership, a "servant's heart" approach to mentoring, maintaining relentless optimism, and empowering others to succeed. His passion for leadership extends beyond the educational setting; he has also held significant roles in the coaching and non-profit sectors. He coached basketball for 10 years at Hope College and West Ottawa, and for two decades, he served as a counselor, volunteer recruiter, and leadership team member at Camp Sunshine.
A long-time advocate for educational leadership, Doug has been an active member of MEMSPA, where he has served on both the region and executive boards. He is currently the President-Elect and has participated in and led numerous professional learning experiences for the organization. He is deeply dedicated to MEMSPA, it's mission and the individuals it serves.
