Jonathan Swegles

Jonathan Swegles is an experienced educator and administrator. He has served as a classroom teacher for seven years and as an administrator for nine years at various public schools, including Bloomingdale Public Schools, Lakeshore Middle School, and Traverse City Area Public Schools. Most recently, Swegles has served as a building assistant principal at West Middle School and is currently the principal at Eastern Elementary School. He was also honored as the 2020 Region 5 Principal of the Year by the Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association.

As an active member of MEMSPA, he has held roles as a middle school representative and president for Region 5 and served as the middle school representative for Region 13 prior to his move to Eastern. He has also presented at state conferences on topics like empowering students through positive relationships. Swegles' leadership style is characterized by his use of humor to create a positive and supportive school environment. He has been a frequent collaborator on professional development topics, sharing his insights on the importance of "leading with grace" and becoming a "learn-it-all" rather than a "know-it-all." Jonathan is grateful for the opportunity to serve on the MEMSPA Executive Board and looks forward to serving its members to the best of his ability.
