MEMSPA Supports for Mentoring and Coaching

MEMSPA believes in supporting our leaders in all stages of their leadership journey from aspiring to retiring. It is required in Michigan for administrators to have a mentor for their first 3 years in a new position. 

There are 4 ways MEMSPA can support you, your district, school, and/or building when it comes to mentoring and coaching support that aims to strengthen the leadership skills of our school leaders (at any level) and promote retention in this challenging work. We even offer mentoring/coaching training for teacher mentors/coaches, since we know how important it is to have strong support for our classroom teachers.

MEMSPA is an approved organization to partner with if you have 27h grant funds for mentoring and coaching.

1:1 Mentoring and Coaching Support for School Leaders
A principal mentor or coach builds leadership capacity to guide schools through change, ensures the highest quality instruction for our students and supports administrators in a way that promotes retention in this challenging work. MEMSPA offers certified 1:1 mentoring and coaching support for school leaders. Support includes monthly 1:1 virtual meetings, 1 - 2 in-person school visits and phone calls, texts and emails as needed.
Cost for year of support from a MEMSPA Certified Mentor/Coach: $2,500

MEMSPA’s Mentoring and Coaching Certification Training
In an effort to support and retain the highest quality leaders in our learning communities, MEMSPA offers a well-established, research-based, Mentoring and Coaching Certification Program. Our certified mentors and coaches provide a continuum of support for school leaders at any point in their leadership journey. MEMSPA certified mentors and coaches develop the skills to facilitate deeply reflective conversations aimed to encourage transformational change and growth on the part of the supported educational leader.

• 2 full days in person
• 3 one-hour virtual check-ins
• Participants in this cohort learning experience also complete an internship.
• Member price: $1,200
• Nonmember price: $1,500

MEMSPA requires recertification after 3 years if the mentor/coach wants to continue to be MEMSPA certified. Recertification training is currently a half-day of virtual training.

Leadership Matters
Leadership Matters is a cohort learning experience designed specifically for school leaders who are eager to grow, connect, and lead with purpose. This powerful cohort spans over 8 months of learning and offers engaging in-person sessions, inspiring facilitation, and a strong network of peers, Leadership Matters empowers leaders with the tools, insights, and confidence to thrive in their leadership journey. 1:1 coaching is provided for each participant throughout the cohort.

• Nonmember price: $3,300

Mentoring/Coaching Certification Training for Teachers (10+ Participants)
Part of supporting our school leaders is making sure the teachers in our schools have adequate support. We believe that offering mentoring/coaching certification training for teachers will benefit the entire learning community.

Teacher Mentor/Coach Certification Cohort:

• 2 full days of in-person training
• 2 one-hour check-ins (virtually)

*Contracts with your school/district will be developed based on the number of participants and the location of the training.
