Are you ready to take the next step in serving MEMSPA? We are seeking a passionate, dedicated leader to fill an important position on the MEMSPA Executive Committee and Board of Directors.

Position: Treasurer/Secretary
MEMSPA is seeking an engaged member to serve as Treasurer/Secretary. The appointment will be presented to the MEMSPA Board of Directors for a vote on September 11, 2026.

This opening is the result of Tim Lyman’s appointment as superintendent. The selected candidate will complete the remainder of his term, which runs through June 2028.

Position Overview
The Treasurer/Secretary provides general supervision of the association’s financial affairs, represents the financial interests of MEMSPA members, and helps ensure the financial viability of the association and its programs.

The Treasurer/Secretary serves as MEMSPA’s spokesperson on financial matters and is responsible for maintaining accurate written records of actions taken at Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings, as well as ensuring those records are distributed appropriately.

Responsibilities
The Treasurer/Secretary will:

  • Serve as the Secretary of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and the Representative Assembly; maintaining or causing to be maintained a complete and accurate record of their proceedings.

  • Serve as Treasurer of the funds of the association; work with the Executive Director and designated accountant to prepare the budget and approve its submission to the finance committee and the full board.

  • Fulfill job description as approved by the Board of Directors.
    Attend all Board of Directors meetings in person (approximately 4 times a year).

  • Attend monthly virtual executive committee meetings.

  • Attend MEMSPA conferences, especially our annual conference in December.

  • Attend and co-lead financial meetings with the Executive Director (usually 3-4 times a year, virtually).

Qualifications
Candidates must:

  • Be an active MEMSPA region member.
  • Have a background or experience in finance and/or treasury responsibilities.
  • Obtain written support from their superintendent to serve in the role.

Selection process
Cyndi Nickel will work with the MEMSPA President and Executive Director to form a selection committee. The committee will recommend a candidate for appointment to the full Board of Directors, which will vote at its September 11 meeting.
